Victoria Generals Fall to Woodlands Strykers
The Victoria Generals kicked off a road trip last night on the wrong foot, losing to the Woodlands Strykers 4-3.
The game remained scoreless until the bottom of the third inning when the Strykers took a 1-0 lead on a Drake Roberts RBI single.
The Generals tied the game up at 1-1 in the top of the fourth. J.B. Moss led off the inning with a double, advanced to third on a Romeo Cortina fly out, and scored on J.D. Arrowood’s sacrifice fly.
The Generals grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth when Kyle Thornell came into score on a throwing error by Strykers pitcher Kevin Roy on a botched pickoff attempt.
The Strykers answered with three runs in the bottom of the fifth to jump ahead 4-2. Generals starting pitcher Zac Vasek allowed four runs (just two earned) in five innings on six hits with five strikeouts.
Trey Wall struck out three batters as he pitched two scoreless innings without allowing a hit. Kaleb Keith tossed a scoreless frame as well.
The Generals cut the Strykers lead to 4-3 in the top of the eighth inning as Moss came around to score on a throwing error by the Stryker’s third baseman. But that would be all that the Generals could get as they’re comeback attempt fell short in the ninth inning.
Moss led the Generals offensively, going 2-for-4 on the night with a double and two runs scored.
With the win, the Strykers improve to 13-28 on the season and 4-7 in the second-half. The Generals fall to 21-18 overall and 4-6 in the second-half.
The two teams will meet again tonight for game two of the series at 7:05pm at The Woodlands Christian Academy.
