Victoria Food Inspection Report!

Courtesy of the Victoria Advocate....here is a list of restaurant and food handling places and how they stacked up. Check to make sure your fav place isn't on the list...or if it is...did they correct their problems?

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING FEB. 28

The New Rodeo, 407 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 47. Improper cold-hold temperature. Wash hands in between tasks. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Cover food in the walk-in cooler. Use gloves but change them out in between different tasks. Store raw meat below eggs. Date-label food with a seven-day use-by date. Walk-in cooler not holding at 41 degrees. Keep paper towels at the hand sink. Address situation of rodent droppings in the back storage area. Store sanitizer rags in sanitizer bucket. Must not use rat poison or the over-the-counter sprays in establishment. Manager did not demonstrate knowledge. Wash dishes properly. Must wash, rinse and sanitize all dishes. Do not store dishes on the ground after washing them. Five facility or equipment violations.

El Norteno Mexican Food, 4105 Port Lavaca Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 23. Wash hands in between tasks. Cover food in walk-in cooler. Change gloves in between tasks. Store raw chicken below other food. Date-label food in walk-in cooler. Address situation of droppings found under the soda fountain. One facility or equipment violation.

Mi Vaca Grill, 2505 E. Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 15. Wash hands after touching hair and clothes. Cover food in walk-in cooler. Date-label food in walk-in cooler. Repair leak under back hand sink. One facility or equipment violation.

Taqueria Vallarta, 1706 N. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 15. Wash hands before glove use and in between tasks. Work on covering all food in the walk-in cooler. Store raw patties below other food. Store sanitizer rags in the sanitizer buckets. Label the sanitizer. One facility or equipment violation.

7 Eleven, 2604 N. Main St., Victoria. Demerits: 11. Improper cold-hold temperature. Keep soap and paper towels at the hand sink. Do not block the hand sink.

French Elementary Cafeteria, 505 N. Henry St., Cuero. Demerits: 9. Improper cold-hold temperature. Discard any potentially hazardous foods more than 41 degrees for more than four hours.

Stripes No. 9761, 905 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 9. Improper cold-hold temperature. Door was left open while cleaning the walk-in cooler. Hot water was turned off.

Cuero Pecan House, 104 W. S. Railroad St., Cuero. Demerits: 7. Need ingredients label on candy. Need thermometer in refrigerator. One facility or equipment violation.

Kentucky Fried Chicken, 1010 E. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 7. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Repair leak at the hand sink. One facility or equipment violation.

Magic Asian Cuisine, 101 N. Commerce St., Port Lavaca, inspected Feb. 3 with 11 demerits. Reinspected Feb. 25 with need to still address keeping hand washing sink accessible. Black cooler holding at 41 degrees. Recommend keeping very few items in cooler and keep a temperature log.

The Box Lunch, 146 N. Highway 35, Port Lavaca, inspected Feb. 3 with 5 demerits. Reinspected Feb. 25 with cold-hold violation corrected.

Wal-Mart Super Center Store No. 1098, 400 Tiney Browning Blvd., Port Lavaca, inspected Feb. 5 with 14 demerits. Reinspected Feb. 20 with most violations corrected.
