Texas Could Soon be Leading the Nation in Speed

Bring on the Texas Autobahn! Okay, so I exaggerated a little, but if the Texas Dept. of Transportation has it’s way, we may soon have a stretch of highway with the nation’s highest speed limit of 85mph. This piece of state Highway 130 that runs north and south between Austin and Seguin, would have a 41-mile segment with the new limit, after officials finish reviewing the toll road’s topography, and take a look at what speed most travelers are driving on the highway.
The department is also checking the highway’s access points and cross-sections for safety with the proposed speed.
Just this week, officials raised the speed on highways 77 and 59 from 70 to 75mph.
