Victoria Makes Top 10 for Historic Preservation

Victoria certainly has a lot of history, and the pride shows everywhere you go. Just drive around on the historic homes tour, or take a look at some of the downtown businesses. According to the website Livability.com, the city ranks 10th for U.S. cities in historic preservation. The site calls itself "a comprehensive online resource on more than 500 of America's Best Places to live, visit, work, play and explore." Programs like the city's Main Street Program, along with museums and it's 113 registered historic properties were cited as factors for the ranking. See the complete top 10 below.

You Can Name the New Owls at the Texas Zoo

Did you hear about the new additions to the Texas Zoo? 2 baby owlets are now residing at the zoo in Riverside Park, and officials want your help in naming them. Jam Fest Flash Mob [VIDEO]

Jam Fest was a rousing success in downtown Victoria over the weekend, with lots of events and attractions, and of course some great music. One event that caught people by surprise was a flash mob that happened in the middle of the events. The mob was made up of local dancers and friends, and it went off like something out of a movie.

Who Let the Dogs Out?

I'm always reading in the Victoria Advocate about people who lost their dog or cat. I also see signs posted around town with pictures of lost animals, on telephone poles, mailboxes, etc. I think most pet owners are responsible and don't let their animals run wild, but on occasion they do get out. Fortunately, the few times my dog got out, he always returned after cruising the neighborhood, and marking every post and tree in sight. Speaking of dogs getting lost, check out this hilarious bit from comedian Steven Wright.

This is one of the more juvenile AND petty things I'm ever going to write about here. But I feel no shame. So I will proceed.

Can anyone give me a legitimate reason that News Paper publishers don't put staples in their newspapers? If not staples, SOMETHING. give me Something that will hold the damned thing together when the wind is blowing.

Is that too much to ask?
