The word was 'scene', which I swear I spelled correctly. The teacher must have heard my 'c' and 'e' run together, so that she thought I spelled it s-e-n-e. But enough sour grapes from me, I'm capable of putting it behind me, some 42 years later. (I know where you live, Miss Crabapple.)  Check out this video from a spelling bee, in which the kid leads the teacher on for a full 2 minutes before spelling the word correctly.
