HBO ‘Westworld’ Boss on Delay: Like ‘Shooting ‘Alien’ and ‘Unforgiven’ Simultaneously’
HBO’s Westworld has had its share of production setbacks (as of publishing, without a premiere date as well), but showrunner Jonathan Nolan insists that the sci-fi drama hasn’t undergone any re-calibration, only that the massive production requirements proved significantly more complicated than HBO thought.

J.J. Abrams Says Rey’s Parents Aren’t in ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ or Maybe They Are, Who Knows
Last night, J.J. Abrams participated in a Q&A with Chris Rock at the Tribeca Film Festival, where topics ranged from superhero films to lens flares to — inevitably — Star Wars: The Force Awakens. When asked if Rey’s parents are in the film, Abrams basically said no, sending fans into a speculation spiral as they crossed Han Solo, Luke and Leia off their lists and prepared to begin a new chapter in their theorizing. But then Abrams clarified his comments in a later statement, taking us right back to where we started with this whole crazy speculation game.

Report: CBS ‘Star Trek’ Series Returning to Original Franchise Continuity
Among the many questions raised by CBS’ announcement of a new All-Access streaming Star Trek for 2017 under Hannibal creator Bryan Fuller, fans had to wonder if a TV return would follow the J.J. Abrams reboot films, return to the original timeline, or perhaps exist independent of both. Now, reports suggest that not only is the original continuity back in play, we know which Star Trek properties the new CBS iteration will fall between.

‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Gets an Appropriately Clever IMAX Poster
Although J.J. Abrams has repeatedly asserted that 10 Cloverfield Lane is not a direct sequel to Cloverfield, the two films do share some DNA, including the revival of Bad Robot's interactive viral marketing. This new IMAX poster not only indulges the studio's fondness for hidden clues and little easter eggs, but also features a very clever design.

By dubbing their latest sci-fi thriller 10 Cloverfield Lane, Bad Robot has done two things: They’ve made sure that fans will flock to see this thing, but they’ve also set expectations a bit high for a film that wasn’t originally connected to Cloverfield. And although J.J. Abrams says that this movie is merely a “blood relative,” the marketing isn’t doing anything to distinguish 10 Cloverfield Lane from its (sorta-kinda) predecessor. But Abrams would still really, really like you to know that these movies are not as related as the title would blatantly suggest.

If you stuck around through the Star Wars: The Force Awakens credits (perhaps waiting in vain for a post-credits scene), you may have noticed that both Bill Hader and Ben Schwartz were credited as “BB-8 Voice Consultants” for the film. Hader spoke about his involvement only briefly saying, “JJ f–-ing around with this sound effects app on his iPad that was attached to a talk box operated by me.” Now Schwartz has spoken about his contributions revealing that he was originally reciting written dialogue.

Hidden web sites? Scrambled codes? Secret passwords? If that sounds like a J.J. Abrams viral marketing campaign to you, you win a prize. We told you last month that the viral campaign for 10 Cloverfield Lane had quietly started, but following the new ad that ran during the Super Bowl, things have considerably gotten more excited...

‘10 Cloverfield Lane’ Star Mary Elizabeth Winstead Talks About J.J. Abrams’ Secret Project
J.J. Abrams pulled off some pretty effortless misdirection, keeping us all so occupied with Star Wars: The Force Awakens that we had no idea about this little indie project he was producing titled 10 Cloverfield Lane. The trailer arrived with no warning, followed by Abrams confirming that the film is indeed related to Cloverfield, though it’s not really a direct sequel. One of the stars of his new mystery project is Mary Elizabeth Winstead, who has opened up just a tiny bit about the secrecy surrounding the film and what we can expect when it hits theaters.

Star Wars Cameos
By now, you probably know all about some of the cameos in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, like Daniel Craig’s secret appearance and the actors behind the voice of BB-8. But there are a couple more hidden cameos you most likely didn’t notice — as it turns out, Luke, Leia, Han and Admiral Ackbar aren’t the only classic characters from the original trilogy who appear in The Force Awakens, but J... The ‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Script Is So Good, J.J. Abrams Wishes He Were Directing It
J.J. Abrams revved up the engine on the ol’ Star Wars ship, launching the series on a new journey with The Force Awakens, but declining to return for the subsequent sequels. Instead, Rian Johnson (Looper) and Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) will be steering the franchise from here on out, directing Episodes 8 and 9, respectively. Johnson is in production on Episode 8 right now, and according to The Force Awakens star Daisy Ridley, the script is “very good.” How good? Abrams regrets turning down the chance to direct it.
