Dave Grohl can now add Elton John to his growing list of famous collaborators. The classic rocker has joined Queens of the Stone Age, with whom Grohl is drumming while Foo Fighters are on hiatus, to record a song on their upcoming album. During an interview the two indicated that the style is very different from what fans have come to expect from the famous piano player.
Elton John and Chris Cornell both were announced as nominees for the 69th annual Golden Globe Awards in January. In fact, both were nominated for awards in the same category: Best Original Song in a Motion Picture.
When they entered the studio to work on songs for a follow-up to 2009′s ‘Volume 4: Songs in the Key of Love & Hate,’ Puddle of Mudd had a hard time finding the inspiration for new material — so they decided just to have fun playing some of their favorite tunes by other artists.
“We were really burned out, and when we started trying to write again it just wasn’t time yet,” said guitarist Paul Phillip in a recent Billboard interview. “We had been doing (AC/DC’s) ‘TNT’ and (the Steve Miller Band’s) ‘The Joker’ and had so much fun with those that one thing led to another, and we decided to make a covers record. It was just something fun to do, and we had a blast.”
