Victoria City Recycling Program Posts Better than Expected First-Year Results

I don't know about your house, but since the recycling program began a year ago in Victoria, our trash is way down, and our recycling is way down. In fact, before they started the program, with 4 kids at home, we had to order an extra trash dumpster for all of our household garbage pickup every week.

Now that the recycling program has become a regular part of our routine, it's the opposite. Now, we rarely fill even one dumpster with trash, and sometimes we could actually use a second recycle bin.

Every year, we look forward to the Miller Lite Blastoff in Victoria. The City of Victoria teams up with Hartman Distributing to bring us an awesome fireworks display, along with live music to celebrate Independence Day. The fireworks have always been great in the past, and this year should be even bigger and better. Which brings me to the following video, in which an entire fireworks factory inadvertently goes up. Are you ready for severe weather? With recent tornadoes and other inclement weather, it makes you wonder just how prepared you are. Living near the coast, obviously we need to be aware especially during hurricane season. Victoria has been pretty lucky in recent years, but why press your luck? The Federal Emergency Management Agency and the National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration have made this week National Severe Weather Preparedness Week through Saturday, April 28th.

Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd, and while reading about events going on around the area, I was reminded about our curbside recycling program. we absolutely love having the service here in Victoria, because it has drastically reduced the amount of trash we throw out in our house. Curbside recycling came to our fair city just a few short months ago, and based on what happens in our home, it has made a huge difference. First of all, we have 3 teenage boys, 2 adults, and a few dogs and cats living in our house, but to tell you the truth, there may be a few I don't even know about. Pets, that is. The point being, that we used to throw away quite a lot of trash. So much in facr, that we opted to pay the extra $5 a month to have an additional trash bin to use.
