Dewitt County officials are warning residents of a new phone scam that has hit the area over the past couple of weeks.

Apparently, residents have received phone calls from someone claiming to be representatives of Prosperity Bank. The caller then tells the potential victim that their credit/debit card information has been compromised and they need to verify personal information including account numbers, social security numbers etc.

DON'T FALL FOR IT!

If you receive one of these calls the best thing to do is to ask the person on the phone to provide something IN WRITING via U.S. Mail. If they really are from the bank and are calling you about a problem with your account they should already have all that information in front of them. And besides, they would never call to begin with.

Heads up Victoria.
