It’s time for motorcycle riders and enthusiasts to strap on those black jeans and sleeveless shirts because this coming Monday — Aug. 6 — the 2012 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally kicks off with the popular charity celebrity event, the Legends Ride, led by Journey‘s Neal Schon.

It’ll be a star-studded event, indeed, with the likes of actress Kristy Swanson, motorcycle daredevil Robbie Knievel and custom builders Arlen, Cory and Zach Ness joining Neal to help support the Black Hills Special Olympics and the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum & Hall of Fame.

After rolling into Deadwood, S.D., on their 55-mile tour of the Black Hills, Journey will take the stage, making the hundreds of riders forget about their sore backsides — certainly sitting on a bike for 55-miles can’t be too comfortable.

While Neal’s schedule is already incredibly busy with Journey being on tour through December, the band has no problem taking the time to stop to do what they can for the charity. He says, “The Legends Ride is a great opportunity to spend the day on my bike with some good friends and fans for a great cause.”

Since it’s inception the Legends Ride has raised more than $240k for the local charities. The contributions from the riders will go to benefit a new bus — which will be unveiled at the ride –and fuel for the Special Olympics travel needs.
