I was reading a story in this morning's Victoria Advocate about a San Antonio woman who miraculously survived what doctors described as a seemingly endless hemorrhage, and was visiting University Hospital to thank the doctors that saved her life. Gina Walker needed blood transfusions of 540 units of blood and blood products, which amounts to about 35 gallons of blood. Needless to say, that is huge. It reminded me of how important it is to the area that we have the South Texas Blood & Tissue Center here in Victoria, and how much they mean to the community.

We like to help out by donating when we can, and also by sponsoring a few blood drives throughout the year. Probably the biggest one is the Tony Borowicz Memorial Blood Drive, which is this Saturday from 9am-4pm, at Victoria Harley-Davidson, at 608 Moody St. in Victoria. The annual event is put on by the Harley Owners Group, and its always a great time. The group has put on the drive every year since Tony's death 1997, and it gets bigger each year.  This year, donors will get a 15th anniversary t-shirt while supplies last, and a sausage wrap courtesy of Mumphord's BBQ.  So, come on out and give the gift of life, check out all the cool Harleys, and have some fun!
