When we were kids, on one thing everybody loved was playing football. We'd gather the kids from the neighborhood, and head over to a nearby field for an impromptu football game. Naturally, we all fancied ourselves as the next Bart Starr or Jan Stenerud.  If you're as old as I am,  you recognize those names, but I digress.

Our kids are potentially the next NFL superstars, and they'll get a chance to show their stuff when the Victoria Parks and Recreation Department hosts the local NFL Punt, Pass, and Kick competition at Riverside Stadium on Saturday, September 29, 2012 at 1 pm.

Registration will be held Monday, September 24 through Friday, September 28. Participants can register at the Parks and Recreation Office, located at 476 McCright Drive in Riverside Park. Registration will also be open on Saturday, September 29, from 11 am to 12:30 pm at Riverside Stadium.

This free competition is open to boys and girls in Victoria and the surrounding communities.

Participants in age divisions 6-7, 8-9, 10-11, 12-13 and 14-15 will compete in punting, passing, and place kicking skills. Boys and girls will compete separately.

The top scorers will advance to the sectional competition. Guardians must bring a copy of the participant’s birth certificate as proof of age.

For more information, call 361-485-3200.

I wonder if they have an old timers division?
