Florida Judge Surprised by Suspect’s Honesty

Here's a change of pace from the criminal justice system, where suspects are always 'innocent' or were 'at home sleeping' when a crime occurred. A suspect in a case involving an Oakland Park, Fla. brothel was surprisingly honest when a judge asked him what he did for a living. That's when, after a short pause, 45 yr old Willie David Rice answered "criminal."

Rice was in court to answer charges of guarding the brothel, known as the "Boom Boom Room."Rice was one of 3 people arrested in May, during a raid on the brothel, that allegedly used underage girls. U.S. District Judge William Dimitrouleas said in the 22 years he's been on the bench and asked about employment,

"it's the first time I've heard that answer."

In explanation of his answer, Rice said he has never had legitimate employment. Rice also pleaded guilty to being a felon in possession of a firearm, a charge that is punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
