Michigan’s MLive! took a special poll to determine the greatest guitar player in the Detroit area, and when they were finished, all signs pointed at Mr. ‘Stranglehold’ himself – Ted Nugent. ‘Uncle Ted’ beat out Jack White, Marshall Crenshaw, and Wayne Kramer of MC5, among others.

Known as “Motor City Madman,” the musical icon of rock ‘n’ roll won the title by a landslide, with a total of 428 votes. The numbers tallied showed over 51 percent of those voicing their opinion voted Nugent, proving that his hometown followers are proud of his five decades of multi-platinum and sold-out worldwide tours.

Throughout this year, Nugent can be seen on the road with other legendary rock bands, REO Speedwagon and Styx, on the Midwest Rock ‘n’ Roll Express Tour. The multi-city trek has been dubbed as one of the hottest summer package tours of the year by Rolling Stone magazine. Check out a list of the forthcoming tour dates for Nugent below.

How exactly The Situation plans to maintain his new found sobriety on a show fueled by alcohol is unclear but the ‘Jersey Shore‘ star is bound and determined to return for the show’s sixth season, drunk or not. “Bound” is the key word here, as The Situation will be forced to miss a court date in his ongoing legal battle with Abercrombie & Fitch due to his contractual obligations to appear on the MTV hit this June.

“The Situation,” government name Mike Sorrentino, is suing the clothing company for ten-million dollars for selling “Situation” and “G.T.L.” themed apparel. Abercombie & Fitch claims their designs are pure parody and therefore non-infringing on any trademarks Sorrentino or MTV might hold. Interestingly enough, A&F once offered to pay Sorrentino not to wear their clothes.

TMZ reports The Situation, who was recently in rehab for a substance abuse problem, is scheduled to appear in court for the case on June 14th but is asking to postpone the date, as he’s to appear on “Jersey Shore” from May 22nd to July 7th.

Though both the show’s marquee stars, The Situation and Snooki will be back, with one sober and the other pregnant, we’re left wondering what’s the point.

We the jury find these strippers guilty of dancing to ‘Dr. Feelgood’ one too many times and killing a dude. Both are punishable by the permanent removal of all body glitter.

According to a report made by the El Paso County sheriff’s office, 67-year-old Robert Gene White was last seen alive getting a lap dance from some dancers (big spender!) at the Red Parrot strip club. The manager of the club told police that when it came time for White to pay the dancers he was unresponsive. That trick works?!?

The same report states that employees tried to perform CPR on White, and when that didn’t work, they called emergency responders. He was then transported to a local hospital where it appears he died of natural causes. That was the name of one of the strippers — Natural Causes.

In honor of our fallen brother, we are asking strippers everywhere to dance at half mast on the poll for the rest of the week.

In the bizarre world of David Lee Roth, apparently there’s nothing wrong with trashing hotel rooms — or trashing Sammy Hagar in print prior to their joint 2002 tour.

But throwing trash onstage during a Van Halen show? That’s a no-no in the eyes of singer Diamond Dave, who recently singled out a fan for tossing rubbish in Roth’s direction at the MTS Centre in Winnipeg.

Van Halen was playing its cover of the Roy Orbison classic ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ and just about to wrap up the song’s bridge when an undetermined object that was launched from within the first few rows landed near Roth’s feet.

Roth quickly quieted the rest of the group by saying, “Wait a second, wait a second,” then addressed the offending party: “Don’t throw your garbage up onstage. Throw you girlfriend, a-hole.” The crowd cheered with approval just as guitarist Eddie Van Halen gently kicked the item toward the front of the stage.

Hmm, maybe this song is giving off bad vibes or something on this tour. On March 13 in New Hampshire, Van Halen was less than a minute into ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’ when Roth stopped the band so he could curse out fans for fighting.

With no official word from the Van Halen camp about the reasons behind yesterday’s sudden postponement of over 30 dates on their summer 2012 tour schedule, speculation has set in, some of it focused on the reportedly testy relationship between David Lee Roth and his bandmates.

Rolling Stone quotes a tour insider as saying that the band members “hate each other,” with another stating that, “The band is arguing like mad. They are fighting.” After ruling the rock world together for much of the late-’70s and early-’80s, the original members of Van Halen famously spent much of the last three decades apart, trading occasional barbs via the press (and dueling album titles) before reuniting sans bassist Michael Anthony for a highly successful tour in 2007.

The band has been on the road since February in support of their first album with Roth in 28 years, ‘A Different Kind of Truth.’ Just last week they added several new dates to their summer tour plans, making the news from yesterday all the more puzzling. (Our current favorite theory involves “a terrible case of hiccups.“)

In one of his few recent interviews in support of the new album and tour, Roth spoke highly of his bandmate, guitar wizard Eddie Van Halen, telling the Los Angeles Times, “There’s an old Russian saying: ‘There’s no more lines in that guy’s stomach.’ It means somebody got fat and slow. There are still a lot of lines in Eddie’s stomach.”

Van Halen returned the favor last month in Esquire, declaring of Roth, “We never really hated each other. I think the press blew that out of proportion… if we argued — you know, now it’s always about, about the structure of a song. It’s never personal. We’ve never on a personal level not gotten along.”

Van Halen have postponed over 30 dates on their 2012 North American tour, beginning with their show scheduled for July 7 at Uncasville, Ct. and ending with their planned Sept. 25 performance in Milwaukee.

No reason or official statement has been given for these postponements, nor is there any word on when the rescheduled dates might be announced. The timing seems odd, as the band announced earlier this week they were extending the tour with eight new shows.

A press release from the EnergySolutions Arena in Salt Lake City, Utah, where the band was scheduled to perform in September simply reads: “The Van Halen show at EnergySolutions Arena Tuesday, September 4th has been temporarily postponed. Future dates to be announced.”

The band will apparently still be performing throughout May and June, with their next show scheduled for Saturday, May 19 in St. Paul, Minn, followed by 13 more dates culminating on June 26 in New Orleans. A complete schedule of both postponed and still-scheduled Van Halen concerts follows below.

Black Sabbath have released a brief statement in response to Bill Ward’s lengthy statement from earlier in the week. In his lengthy screed, the band’s original drummer declaring that his “final effort” to reach an agreement that would enable him to join the band’s upcoming reunion shows had failed.

Obviously and wisely deciding that they wouldn’t be able to match Ward word-for-word, the other three members of Black Sabbath — Tony Iommi, Ozzy Osbourne and Geezer Butler — have gone the minimalist route, reminding everyone that there are two sides to every story, reporting that they have indeed found a replacement drummer (our money’s on Ozzy’s current drummer, Tommy Clufetos) and that they’ll see their fans out on tour. Last night, Conan O’Brien visited ‘The Late Show With David Letterman’ – his first appearance on that show in over 13 years and his first late-night appearance since being fired as host of ‘The Tonight Show.’ Naturally with their combined dislike of Jay Leno, you could see where the interview would be going…

It didn’t take long before Letterman brought up Jay Leno with Conan who quipped he had no idea the topic would come up.  Said Conan of their interview and the eventual Leno discussion:

“You know [Leno is] watching right now. He’s getting a live feed in a satellite truck right now, watching every second.”

For his part, Letterman said he was “delighted” by everything that went down with Leno, Conan and ‘The Tonight Show’ with the exception, of course, of Conan losing his job.  They each did their Leno impressions – the squeaky voice, the head bob, etc. – and generally had a few laughs at ‘The Tonight Show’ host’s expense. All in good fun (ahem).

There is some good news being reported about the state of young people in America.

According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, fewer American teens and young adults are smoking cigarettes than they were nearly a decade ago.

This new report consists of data collected each year between 2004 and 2010 as part of the National Survey on Drug Use and Health. Researchers interviewed nearly 158,000 people between the ages of 12 and 17 and roughly 159,000 men and women between the ages of 18 to 25.

• The number of children between the ages of 12 and 17 who smoked every day fell from 3.3% in 2004 to 1.9% in 2010.
• Young people ages 18 to 25 years old also reported decreased daily tobacco use – from 20.4% in 2004 to 15.8% in 2010.
• The ranks of young smokers between the ages of 12 and 17 who smoke five or fewer cigarettes a day grew from nearly 37% in 2004 to almost 43% in 2010.
• The largest group of daily smokers between the ages of 18 to 25 who smoked between six and 15 cigarettes a day slightly increased from about 41% in 2004 to roughly 44% in 2010.
• There was nearly a 3% decrease in young adults who smoked 26 or more cigarettes a day.

According to researchers, the downward trend in tobacco use could be the result of anti-smoking laws, tax increases, and tougher laws prohibiting the sale of tobacco to minors.

Researchers also add that while these findings may be encouraging, many kids are still picking up this dangerous habit.

Axl Rose of Guns N’ Roses injured his leg in Moscow by falling off a table he was dancing on to celebrate the opening of his band’s European tour.

“Can you say HemaToma?!,” the singer asked while posting a photo of the resulting, and rather gruesome bruise on his Twitter account. Well, we can define it with some help from Merriam Webster: “a mass of usually clotted blood that forms in a tissue, organ, or body space as a result of a broken blood vessel.”

According to Komsomolskaya Pravda, and please, be sure to check and make sure the translation is accurate, Rose needed medical attention and was unable to travel with the rest of his band on their originally scheduled flight to Dublin for tonight’s (May 17) concert.

However he is expected to make a later flight in time for the performance. Which is good, we wouldn’t want his Cal Ripken-like streak of on-time concert performances to end as a result of a little partying, right?

In 2011, there were more racial or ethnic minorities born in the United States than white babies. This marks the first time in history that minorities make up the majority of births in the US.

Of the 4.1 million babies born last year, 50.4% were minorities, while 49.6% were white. A total of 1.99 million were white, while another 1.05 million are classified as Hispanic. The remaining are black, mixed race, Asian, Native American or Pacific Islander.

According to the latest census data, there are now 114.1 million minorities in the US, which comprises 36.6% of the country’s total population.

This landmark in minority births is coming at time in which Hispanic and Asian immigration is leveling off — if not going into a decline. Yet because the Hispanic population, in particular, trends young they are still having babies at higher rate than the older white population.

Demographers estimate that the entire US population will become ‘majority minority’ sometime between 2040 and 2050.

Greg Barris is a staple in New York’s downtown stand-up scene. He’s the creator of Heart Of Darkness — a psychedelic showcase of comedy, live music and science. Yes, science.

When he isn’t traveling with The Heart of Darkness show, he is making music with his band ‘The Wigmaker’s Son.’ Their first release takes listeners “on a magic carpet ride through time waves, anoints Tom Selleck as a baby saving mustachioed saint, puts the reptilian army on notice and forgives all your sins.”

Greg sat down to talk about Magnum PI, Heart of Darkness, wigs and his side job owning a pizza joint.

GuySpeed: How much of your inspiration has come from your family who owns a wig-making business?

Greg Barris: Well, my band is called ‘The Wigmaker’s Son.’

GuySpeed: Right, so how much comedic inspiration came from that line of work? We think it’s kind of a funny thing. You know someone makes wigs but you don’t always think about it like “that’s a family business.”

Greg Barris: My grandfather was a wig maker. My brother’s a wig maker. My dad’s a wig maker. The job itself doesn’t provide much inspiration but there were always a lot of eccentric people coming into the wig shop.

GuySpeed: Were they upset that you didn’t get into the family business?

Greg Barris: Nah, they were really supportive and have always been supportive of anything I’ve done.

GuySpeed: Is it something to fall back on? We all have a fall back plan

Greg Barris: I don’t think so. I don’t know what I would do. I don’t know how to make wigs. My father and grandfather both started when they were kids. It’s too late for me.

GuySpeed: Your bio says that you’re also the co-owner of a pizza place. Maybe that’s Plan B?

Greg Barris: I guess so.

GuySpeed: How did that happen?

Greg Barris: I sorta fell ass-backwards into the pizza world. My grandfather owned a restaurant — the only restaurant on a elevated train on Coney Island — like on the actual elevated part of the train. One day, I was doing a show and was walking back to my friend’s apartment with a case of beer. I was starving, and this pizza place was closing up. I knocked on the window, hoping to get some pizza to go with the beers. The owner and I hit it off. He is showing me around and we go down to the basement. It was a great place to put on a show. So, I started doing a show in the basement of this pizza place for like a year-and-a-half. That was about 8 years ago. Over the course of the last eight years I’ve just become intimately involved and then a part-time owner.  We actually just opened a second location.

GuySpeed: You recently anointed Tom Selleck a “baby-saving mustached saint.”  Is there any way to explain that in a couple words?

Greg Barris : I make these stickers with my friend who’s a band director, Dema Durchin. He’s a very talented artist and one of the stickers that he made a long time ago said, “Tom Selleck saved my baby,” and it had Tom Selleck holding a gun with a baby in his arms. It’s basically just us loving Tom Selleck.

GuySpeed: Explain a little about the Heart of Darkness show

Greg Barris: It’s a variety show that I’ve been doing for like seven or eight years now. It’s sort of a different format than in the past. There’s always a different live band on stage. It’s like three different bands that come together to make this six-piece band and each show is themed. There are always two comics and some musical guests and a guest speaker. We try to theme the show around the speaker and then everyone tries to do something that touches on that theme. I have to pick a band that can play with the comics, so to speak, or the musical guests. The speaker’s usually like a fringe scientist.

GuySpeed: Where did the idea for all this come from?

Greg Barris: Well, it sort of just built on itself over the last several years. I was working on a documentary, years ago, about consciousness and science. I was interviewing a lot of science people and they were so interesting I wanted to bring it to a live show. For example, I recently had a quantum physicist join us on stage. We do like a question and answer thing. The show is always evolving and changing into something else.

GuySpeed: Where do your comedic inspirations come from?

Greg Barris: All over the place really — I love live comedy. I also really like Gene Wilder and Bill Murray.  Also the show ‘Look Around You.’  Ever see that show?

GuySpeed: Describe it and maybe we’ve seen it

Greg Barris: It’s a British show by this guy Peter Serafinowicz, he’s a genius and he made this almost like a weird PBS science show, but it’s absolutely absurd. It’s just very, very absurd and dry. There’s not really another American show like it.

GuySpeed: So, because of your personal tastes, your comedy tends to lean toward funny but also kind of a learning experience?

Greg Barris: Yeah, I try to learn stuff myself and try to fit some sort of learning experience in my shows.

Smith said on BBC Radio while conveniently doing some early press rounds for his new film ‘Men in Black 3′ that the entire Smith clan got a rare opportunity to tour the White House with Pres. Barack Obama. Smith knew his son wanted to ask Obama about aliens but forbade him from embarrassing him in the nation’s most famous mansion.

When the group got to the situation room, Jaden just couldn’t stop himself from popping the question. Smith said he knew it was coming and was powerless to stop it.

So we get into the situation room and Jaden gets the look in his eyes and he leans over to me and asks, ‘Dad, What’s my punishment?’”

Apparently, Jaden never got to actually ask the question because even the president could tell it was coming. Smith said just as Jaden was about to ask, Obama stopped him, looked at him and uttered, “The aliens, right?”

Of course, the president could “neither confirm nor deny the existence of extra-terrestrials,” but he did say that no meeting on the subject had ever taken place in the situation room since he took office.

Smith didn’t say what Jaden’s punishment was for defying his father’s wishes. We’d say a ‘Karate Kid’ sequel would be punishment enough.

Curt Schilling’s 38 Studios, which borrowed $75 million from the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation, is hurting financially and may be unable to pay back its debt.

That’s bad news for people who dug the studio’s debut game, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning, because it means that we probably won’t be seeing a sequel or the long-in-development massively multiplayer online game any time soon.

Joystiq reports that a default on the bond would mean the Kingdoms of Amalur franchise would belong to the Rhode Island taxpayers. At that point the state would probably auction off the franchise for far less than its debt and eat the loss.

Maybe a publisher that respects Amalur’s potential could come along, snatch it up and do the series justice. And maybe Schilling will report back to the Boston Red Sox and score a ridiculous signing bonus that lets him pay off the debt and keep his game company’s intellectual property. Neither scenario is likely.

Let this be a lesson to states business-promoting organizations: Beware of lending money to baseball legends who are dabbling in the videogame business.

What is it with guys hitting Snooki and her look-alikes? She’s so small and harmless that it leads us to believe these are the same men who’d take a magnifying glass to ants to see ‘em explode. TMZ obtained video of this altercation that took place at this past weekend’s Rockfest in Kansas City.

The bearded festival-goer apparently hit his boiling point after the small, tan brunette in the pink Playboy hat hit a nerve with one of her comments. So, he decides to go all ’300′ on her with a kick to the chest and face area. (Note: this video may be too intense for some viewers.)

After a split second of shock, a gang of guys come to her defense and go nuclear on him. But, we’re wondering about the guy who was initially talking to the crazed kicker. You’d think after your attempt to calm down the assaulter failed, you’d just step aside and say, “Well, I told him.” But, no, this guy is there peeling off the kicker’s attackers. Must be one hell of a friend.

As for the Snook-alike (thanks, TMZ), maybe she missed the episode where her more famous doppelganger mouthed off and got clocked? Maybe the scent of pickle juice mixed with bronzer triggers the fight portion of one’s brain — like a bull seeing red. Take note, little guidettes.

Disco legend Donna Summer has died after a battle with cancer, TMZ is reporting. She was 63 years old.

Insiders say she wanted to keep the disease quiet, and a friend said that as recently as two weeks ago, Summer seemed okay and was even finishing up work on a new album.

The five-time Grammy winner shot to fame in the 1970s with songs like ‘Love to Love You Baby,’ ‘Hot Stuff’ and ‘Bad Girls,’ and continued her reign on radio airwaves into the ’80s with hits including ‘She Works Hard for the Money’ and ‘This Time I Know It’s for Real.’

Summer was also the first artist to have three consecutive double albums reach No. 1 on the US Billboard chart.

It’s such a famous scene that if we simply say “Sharon Stone’s ‘Basic Instinct’ moment,” you know exactly which revealing shot I’m referencing. And apparently Nicole Kidman will attempt to top it – if possible – in Lee Daniels’ upcoming drama ‘The Paperboy.’ Want to see for yourself?

Daniels is bringing ‘The Paperboy,’ his follow-up to his Oscar-winning ‘Precious,’ to the Cannes Film Festival this week. It stars Matthew McConaughey as a reporter following up on a story about a death-row inmate (John Cusack) who might be innocent of his crimes. Daniels also cast Zac Efron as McConaughey’s younger brother and Kidman as an imbalanced woman who brings the legal case to the reporter’s attention.

That’s not all she calls attention to. In a scene insiders are referring to as Kidman’s ‘Basic Instinct’ moment, the Oscar winner apparently flashes an unsuspecting viewer, and it’s captured in the first official still shot from the legal drama (via Movies.com).

This is the tip of the iceberg, according to Daniels, who hints at a torrid affair between 44-year-old Kidman and 24-yeal-old Efron (on screen, not in real life), and several scenes of what he calls his crew “getting down.”

Find out exactly what that means when ‘The Paperboy’ reaches theaters later this year, likely in November or December so it can be considered for Oscar contention.
