Success! Congratulations to Anthony Pedone, the driving force behind the first ever Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival that took place last weekend. Pedone estimated that around 2,000 people were in town for the event. Not bad, especially when you consider that the whole thing was put together in only about 2 months.

You hear it all the time, complaints that there's nothing to do in Victoria. That is true to some extent, that's why it was so cool to have an event like this. I love movies, especially smaller, quirky independent films that typically fly under the radar, and there were some great ones this past weekend. Documentaries, dramas, animated, live action, shorts, and feature length films. With a panel of jurors from all over the world, this festival had lots of positive buzz surrounding it, and people were not disappointed. Organizer Anthony Pedone said that as long as the city's hotel occupancy tax can help support the event again next year, it should be back. That is great news, and we look forward to it being bigger and better next year.
