For any DirecTV customers out there, myself included, the past 2 weeks have been....well...in my opinion AWESOME!

Why you ask?  Simple.  The dispute between DirecTV and Viacom Network who own such stations as MTV/Nickelodeon/Comedy Central etc meant I no longer had to scroll through my guide to see the further demise of "Music Television".  Basically, no more marathons of "Jersey Shore" or "16 & Pregnant" cluttering up my program guide.

The pissing contest began back on July 10th when Viacom and DirecTV refused to reach a deal which would see DirecTV paying MORE to carry those channels.  I'll admit, I like Comedy Central programming (South Park, Colbert Report, Daily Show and Tosh.0) and I watch VH1 only for "That Metal Show" and let's face it, kiddos dig Spongebob on Nickelodeon.  But, why should people have to pay MORE to watch such timeless classics as "JWOWW and Snooki", or "Teen Moms" or my favorite "The Real World" which is about 7 rich kids picked to live in a mansion....the very epitome of the real world....great job MTV.

Still, there is no word on whether or not DirecTV customers will receive a discount on their bill for the time those channels were blacked out (my guess is don't hold your breath).  All I do know is out of the 17 channels available under the Viacom umbrella, 3 of them are tolerable....and you want to start charging me MORE to watch the remaining 14 useless, wastes of airtime?  Thanks but no thanks.

So, Viacom, the second you start playing something on MTV that relatively relates to anything resembling music, then you can state your case but until then, just be happy anyone even watches your crap anymore.

Gotta go now......I have a date with a pineapple under the sea.
