Deep Purple to Reissue ‘Live in Paris 1975′

Deep Purple
earMusic

Hard rock innovators Deep Purple may be working on their first new studio album since 2005′s ‘Rapture of the Deep,’ but that’s not stopping them from reissuing some of their classic records. In the coming year, the band will reissue 10 albums, beginning with ‘Live in Paris 1975,’ which will hit stores on Jan. 29, 2013.

The album, which will be available on two CDs and digitally, has been remastered from the original tapes. It documents Deep Purple’s show at the Palais des Sports on April 17, 1975, and was originally released on Purple Records in 2001. However, tracks from this concert were also included on 1976′s ‘Made in Europe’ and 1996′s ‘MK III: The Final Concerts.’ This particular show is of historical significance to the band because it was their last concert with Ritchie Blackmore, who had already formed another hard rock band, Rainbow.

Included in the set are such beloved tunes as ‘Smoke on the Water’ and ‘Highway Star,’ which closed out the night. Naturally, extended solos form a good portion of the album. ‘You Fool No One’ and ‘Space Truckin” both last longer than 19 minutes, and three other tracks are more than 10 minutes.

Deep Purple have been working on an as-yet untitled new record of late. It will be released on April 30. The disc features 13 tracks, one of which, ‘Above and Beyond,’ is a tribute to founding keyboardist Jon Lord, who passed away back in July.
