The Victoria Generals got their winning back on track last night, pulling out a 4-3 victory over the Woodlands Strykers at Riverside Stadium. It was a close game through the 7th, until a sacrifice fly in the 8th allowed a tie-breaking run to score, and the Generals held the lead the rest of the way
Animal Planet is definitely one of our favorite TV networks in our house. We all like it from our 13 yr old, to my wife and I. One of the coolest shows on the network is Rattlesnake Republic, and Rick and Eric Timaeus are coming to Victoria. The Victoria Generals allowed 1 run from the East Texas Pumpjacks in the first inning, but that was all they allowed, as they put together a powerful 10-1 win at Riverside Stadium last night. Generals starting pitcher Jeremy Flores gave up the run early in the game, and managed to give up only 2 hits in the 3 innings he was in action
Thursday June 14th is World Blood Donor Day. It's a day designated around the globe to encourage people from all nations to donate blood, and our own South Texas Blood & Tissue Center has a number of different blood drives scheduled around Victoria.
Donating blood is something that can easily be taken for granted. A single donation can save multiple lives, and it's something that is a constant need in South Texas. Giving blood is also good for your health. It only takes about 30 minutes, and when your body replenishes it's blood cell supply, it removes iron, which at high levels can contribute to heart disease. Your body also will produce new, stronger, healthy blood cells. You also get a mini physical, which can give you important information about your health. So celebrate World Blood Donor Day at one of the many blood drive locations listed below.

Every year, we look forward to the Miller Lite Blastoff in Victoria. The City of Victoria teams up with Hartman Distributing to bring us an awesome fireworks display, along with live music to celebrate Independence Day. The fireworks have always been great in the past, and this year should be even bigger and better. Which brings me to the following video, in which an entire fireworks factory inadvertently goes up. Talk about some fireworks!

Saturday we were hanging out at the new pet store on Laurent called Hairy Tom's Pet Shoppe, and I gotta tell you we had a great time. Hairy Tom's doesn't have the typical kittens and puppies and goldfish. No, they specialize in more unusual pets, like snakes, lizards, and ferrets. The people that work there are great, they know their stuff, and they have the answers to any questions you might have about their animals.
