Storms across south Texas knocked out power for about 2,000 people in Port Lavaca early this morning, which made me think about power outages we've had here in Victoria, and how much we depend on electricity. Electricity is something we take for granted pretty easily. You don't even really think about it, that is until it's not there. TVs, computers, lights, washers, dryers, almost everything we use around the house depends upon electricity.
Every year on April 1st, office water coolers are spiked with white wine and computer mouses are glued to desks. Every year on college campuses, half empty buckets of water are placed on the top of dorm room doors and passed out bros are covered with marker ink. And throughout the world, the sound of chuckling and cackling can be heard echoing across its borders.
April Fool’s Day is just around the corner and that means rubes all over the world are bound to have their toilet seats super glued, their coffee spiked with garlic and their lives turned into someone else’s entertainment.

The 40th anniversary of David Bowie‘s iconic and game-changing ‘The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars’ was commemorated yesterday (March 27) when the Crown Estate unveiled a plaque which has been placed at 23 Heddon Street. The sign is just off from Regent Street, London, W1, and is where the album’s cover photo was actually taken. That fact was little-known, until now, of course. The plaque marks a significant location in British music lore and history.
Success! Congratulations to Anthony Pedone, the driving force behind the first ever Victoria Texas Independent Film Festival that took place last weekend. Pedone estimated that around 2,000 people were in town for the event. Not bad, especially when you consider that the whole thing was put together in only about 2 months.
