The Victoria Police Department wants you. Our local law enforcement agency does a pretty good job in our fair city, and they also do a pretty good job in marketing. Take a look at their Facebook page to see what I mean.
If you've ever considered joining the ranks of the police department, Victoria could be just the right city to do it. Check out this cool recruitment video to get you in the spirit. After watching this, I may be considering a career change.
The Victoria Generals are back in action and off to a great start, but lost their first game so far this season, dropping one to the Brazos Valley Bombers 6-4 Monday night at Riverside Stadium. Pitcher Jordan Harrison had a great game going, allowing just 2 hits and an earned run in 6 innings. Corey Holmes was his relief, but the Generals gave up 3 runs in the 7th inning to tie, and 2 more later to get the win for the Bombers. The Generals fell to 3-1, and the Bombers upped their record to 2-1. The Generals wrapped up their home stand last night against the Bombers. Want to win tickets to see the Generals in action? We had a pool table when I was a kid, although you wouldn't know it judging by the way I play now. Pool is certainly a popular game, just check out any bar around town, and you're sure to find a table or two. When I first moved to our fair city, friends and co-workers would take me to Barney's to play. Since it was a bona fide pool hall, there were lots of tables. Well these days, Barney's is history, but you can still play at most bars. Where is your favorite place to play pool in Victoria? While you're thinking about it, check out this instructional video on how to play the game.
Earth Day is this Sunday, April 22nd, and while reading about events going on around the area, I was reminded about our curbside recycling program. we absolutely love having the service here in Victoria, because it has drastically reduced the amount of trash we throw out in our house. Just in case you aren't quite up to speed on the city recycling program, check out this video on the subject. Oh, that reminds me-today is recycling pick up day on my street.
"There's nothing for kids to do around here." You hear it all the time in Victoria, especially if you're a parent. Well, that's not exactly true. We do have a myriad of parks around the city, and if you're a skateboarder, or just like watching some kids with skills, then stop by the Victoria Skatepark, located by Victoria Community Center. Ceck out this video, and see what I mean. Oh, and the music is pretty cool, too.
