On June 23, 2012, history was made for a number of reasons. That fateful Saturday marked the first day of a two-day festival created, organized and executed by Metallica, the first of its kind for the legendary rock band. Metallica headlined both days of the festival, known as Orion Music + More, making it the first time they ever performed in Atlantic City, N.J. For the 30,000 fans in attendance that first night, though, history was made for a much more important reason: Metallica played their classic album, 'Ride the Lightning,' in its entirety for the first time ever.

After one of the most heated battles in campaign history, President Obama delivered his victory speech in Chicago, Ill., saying, "Tonight you voted for action, not politics as usual ... I am looking forward to reaching out and working with leaders of both parties to meet the challenges we can only solve together."

Following Neil Young & Crazy Horse's Friday night headlining set at Voodoo Music + Arts Experience in New Orleans, the bar was set high for Metallica. Even before the festival, though, expectations were raised as it was announced that the band would be taking over Green Day's headlining duties while lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong entered a rehabilitation program for alcohol abuse. This meant that Metallica would be returning to the stage for their last show in 2012.
