Little by little, Anthrax are sharing all of their 'Anthems' EP covers, with our friends at Ultimate Classic Rock now premiering the band's take on the Boston classic, 'Smokin'.'

Drummer Charlie Benante explained about their selection of the Boston song, "One of the great things about ‘Smokin’ is that there’s a really cool section that has a real ‘Anthrax-y’ feel to it, the guitars and drums and playing the same type of rhythm, the kick drums are going with the guitars – I immediately heard in my head what we could do with it.”

As for that very prominent keyboard that's part of the original track, Benante revealed that co-producer Jay Ruston reached out to Alice Cooper, Cheap Trick and Pink Floyd collaborator Fred Mandel to lend a hand on the song.

'Smokin'' follows Anthrax's recently unveiled covers of Cheap Trick's 'Big Eyes,' Thin Lizzy's 'Jailbreak,' Rush's 'Anthem' and AC/DC's 'T.N.T.,' the latter of which premiered right here at Loudwire.

The 'Anthems' EP arrives March 19, just days prior to the start of the group's 'Metal Alliance' tour that will keep them on the road this spring. To listen to Anthrax's cover of Boston's 'Smokin'' over at Ultimate Classic Rock, click on the red button below.
