While there are often stories about ridiculously expensive comfort food — for example the $100 hot dog — it’s hard to tell if anybody actually buys these overpriced dishes.

The folks at Steveston Pizza Company in Vancouver, Canada can confirm at least one person has bought the $450 “C6″ pizza they recently began offering.

The pizza connoisseur with a fat wallet was treated to a pie topped with lobster thermidor and black Alaska cod along with Russian Osetra caviar on the side.

The pizzeria also has a $120 dollar pie, made merely with roasted garlic, Icelandic scampi, smoked steelhead and lobster ratatouille.  That “C5″ concoction has already been purchased seven times.

“I never thought I’d sell so many,” Stevenson owner Nadir Hatami confessed.

Before Hatami went seafood crazy, the Guinness record holder for the most expensive pizza was the $178 pie at celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay’s Maze restaurant in New York City.

But according to Hatami, he was thinking about more than just records when he created the C6. ”The idea was to make a culinary statement,” Hatami said. “I don’t know if you’ve tried our pizza but each one is pretty unique.”

And you don’t even need to be a movie star or an oligarch to put Hatami to the test. The Stevenson Pizza Company offers a wide range of pies starting at the suddenly bargain basement price of $14 bucks.
